Aloe Vera in History
Aloe Vera is a plant with tons of historical value. It has been used for countless centuries by many civilizations and scores of historical figures along the way. Aloe Vera is native to Africa and was well regarded by the Greeks, Arabs, Egyptians and Spaniards. In 1500 B.C. Egyptians recorded use of the plant for treating burns, infections and parasites. The earliest record of Aloe Vera is on a Sumerian tablet dating from 2100 BC
Perhaps more than anything else, Aloe Vera gel has been used topically for thousands of years throughout the world to treat wounds, skin infections, burns, and numerous other situations where helping the body out in situations of skin damage.
Alexander the Great conquered Socotra, an island lush with aloe plants for his armies to use in order to treat intestinal worms and wounds inflicted in battle. Cleopatra benefited from the aloe Vera to keep her skin smooth and even King Solomon cultivated the aloe plants.
Aloe Barbadensis Miller
The particular Aloe Vera plant used in our product is indigenous to northern Africa, and was transported to the Caribbean area probably in the 17th century. The plant growth was so luxuriant on the island of Barbados that visiting sailors referred to the islands as “bearded.” The name, Barbados, and the aloe species name, barbadensis, are both derived from the Portuguese.
Aloe Vera Effects on Burns:
Several animal studies and a clinical trial have assessed the effectiveness of Aloe Vera in the treatment of skin burns. One study looked at full-thickness burns in guinea pigs. This study appeared to show conclusively that Aloe Vera gel helped the body to hasten complete healing of burn wounds within 30 days, compared to 50 days in the control group.
In a human study, 27 patients with partial thickness burn wounds were treated with topical Aloe Vera gel or a standard Vaseline gauze. The average healing time was 18.19 days in the Vaseline-gauze treated wounds and 11.89 days in the Aloe Vera gel treated wounds. Histological examination showed early epithelialization in the Aloe Vera gel treated skin areas.
Effects on Skin Exposure to UV and Gamma Radiation:
Recent evidence has supported a protective benefit of Aloe Vera gel against several forms of radiation damage to the skin. Aloe Vera gel was demonstrated to reduce skin damage following exposure to gamma radiation in mice. The results were best in animals who received the Aloe treatment for at least two weeks beginning immediately after irradiation. A protective effect also was documented in mouse skin exposed to soft x-irradiation. Investigators found that an antioxidant protein, metallothionein, was induced in the skin and liver within 24 hours of Aloe Vera gel administration. Following x-ray exposure, Aloe Vera gel was found to scavenge hydroxyl radicals and prevent suppression of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in the skin. This would be a powerful assistance to the body.
Treatment of Frostbite and Psoriasis:
Several animal studies support the clinical use of Aloe Vera gel in treating frostbite tissue damage. Heggars and associates utilized an experimental rabbit ear model to demonstrate the effectiveness of Aloe Vera gel, as well as that of several inhibitors of arachidonic acid metabolism (e.g., aspirin and methylprednisolone). In control animals, no tissue survival was seen. In contrast, Aloe Vera gel treatment resulted in 28.2% tissue survival compared to 22.5% and 12.5% with aspirin and steroid, respectively. The investigators concluded that the progressive dermal ischemia occurring during frostbite could be reduced by inhibiting the production of prostaglandin’s and thromboxanes from arachidonic acid. A more recent study supports these observations. Systemic pentoxifylline and topical Aloe Vera gel were both found to improve tissue survival in the frostbitten ears of New Zealand rabbits. Using both agents together further increased tissue survival. A recent double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 60 psoriasis patients evaluated the efficacy of treatment with topical Aloe Vera gel was administered three times daily for five consecutive days each week for 16 weeks. At the end of the study Aloe Vera gel had significantly reduced lesions, decreased erythema, and lowered PASI (psoriasis area and severity index) scores in 25 out of the 30 patients in the treatment group. In comparison, two out of 30 patients in the placebo group improved.

The inner juices (gels) of the Aloe Vera plant have been used for centuries to improve health and wellness. See the Aloe Vera History to the right.
There is simply no question that Aloe Vera juice is valuable to human health by providing its unique nutrient compounds for use inside our body. The only consideration left is which particular product to choose for our own health. We believe our product is the answer to that question, after extensive testing and clinical use of a variety of Aloe Vera products.
Our product, Aloe Vera Power, has the highest amount of Methanol Precipitable Solids of any product on the market.
Methanol Precipitable Solids
Methanol Precipitable Solids (or MPS) is a way to demonstrate the concentration or strength of an Aloe Vera gel or gel product. The MPS measurement is obtained by adding methanol alcohol to the Aloe solution causing the Aloe’s methanol molecules to come out of solution or “precipitate”.
- Pure Aloe extract should have between 500 mg to 1,000 mg MPS per liter.
- One of the better competing Aloe product has as 3,300 mg MPS per liter.
- Our Aloe Vera Power product is rated at 28,000 mg MPS per liter, meaning it packs the most Aloe Vera power punch of all products currently on the market.
No mucopolysaccharide in Aloe Vera
There is some confusion with vendors that mention mucopolysaccharide content in regard to Aloe Vera products. This is a complete inaccuracy. Aloe Vera does not have mucopolysaccharides. See the following link for further detail regarding this inaccuracy as it relates to Aloe Vera products.

Aloe is Great for Keeping the Skin Healthy
Aloe Vera is well known throughout history for providing assistance to the body in cases of skin damage, ranging from deep wounds suffered in battle, to damaged skin from sun, wind exposure and bites from insects. Aloe's assistive power is theorized to come partly from helping to increase the availability of oxygen in the skin and partly from its ability to help suppress free radicals and partly from its ability to accelerate natural healing processes.
Aloe Plant Structure
Two "juices" may be extracted from the plant – a bitter yellow sap or "latex," and an opalescent internal gel. The yellow sap contains anthraquinones, chief among which is aloin. These substances are powerful laxatives which have been used for this purpose for several centuries. In the plant, this sap is contained in special tubules which form a portion of the nutrient tubes of the vascular bundles located just beneath the wax-covered, thick green rind of the leaf.
The gel, which constitutes the bulk of the leaf substance, serves a s the water storage organ for the plant. This gel, which may be removed as a semisolid “fillet” before processing, contains more than 200 different substances. Chief among these are polysaccharides (gluco-mannans), glycoproteins, vitamins, mineral and enzymes. Scientific evidence is accruing which documents several several activities that offer considerable promise when used in cosmetics and consumer pharmaceuticals.
Although, many Aloe products avoid the rind portion of the Aloe because the sap is very bitter, we utilize the rind sap and the gel as the clinical health results are superior to using just the gel. In the amounts furnished in our product there is virtually no laxative effect.
